SCREENING: ALTER EGOS
In the dark streets of The Hague, the window of the Das Leben am Haverkamp studio will transform into an open air cinema! Every two weeks a new experimental triptych will be shown, presenting a new generation of image makers. Ranging from experimental film, to animation, to virtual fashion, the presented works explore the body and the act of dressing up as vehicles for change. Through speculative beings, they investigate the politics of the costumed body.

NOBU (2018/9min) is about Nobuaki Konno, the Japanese father of Lisa Konno and shows the humorous side of cultural misunderstandings.
BABA (2020/14min) is about Ceylan Utlu, Serin Utlu’s Turkish father, and shows the melancholy of a life that turned out differently than intended.
HENK (2022/25min) is about Henk Shakison, the Surinamese concierge of the Rietveld Academy. It shows the beauty of a life where recognition plays no role.

LOVE AT FIRST BYTES
Felizitas & Theresa Hoffmann
01.12.2023 - 14.12.2023
In 2018, Theresa Hoffmann submitted several „Subject Access Requests" (SARs) to various organisations, companies and institutions in London to find out what kind of personal data is hold about her, how they use it and with whom they share it. Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation every citizen is entitled to ask to see any personal information, that is hold about oneself. In most cases, the contacted companies did not manage to provide the requested data. The film „Love at first byte" consists of parts of her received personal data from Transport of London (TFL) and puts this data in a creative narrative.
Based on the UK General Data Protection Regulation Felizitas & Theresa Hoffmann were allowed to obtain the surveillance camera footage of the London Underground (Transport for London) of the passenger 061651774505 and turn it into an AI love story.

STARTING WITH A HUSH
Benjamin Pompe
15.12.2023 - 28.12.2023
In Starting with a Hush, elements such as drawings, found images are combined with sculpted meshes like theatrical set pieces. The video displays a selection of prop-like elements adding a key-framed animation to give a sense of depths and space. The story is such as the props formed in a collage-like manner instead of a carefully pre-constructed literal piece. The animation is transformed into a 2,5D diorama, blending flat objects and drawings within a three-dimensional environment. This approach gives life to these prop-like elements, infusing them with a dynamic sense of depth and movement.
In the scene, we see a character move through three dream-like phases contemplating a non coherant narrative. Personal and associative links emerge between various objects, sounds, shapes, and structures that, at first glance, appear to lack any common logic. Yet, through weaving together these disparate parts and techniques, a unique fictional realm is created, challenging the traditional norms of storytelling and fiction as an established medium.
USING ONE'S FEET HAS BECOME AN OPTION OF LAST RESORT
Tra My Nguyen
29.12.2023 - 12.01.2024
Drawing upon her vivid memories of riding motorbikes in Vietnam during her childhood, the 3-channel video work by Tra My Nguyen explores diasporic memories. A speculative protagonist brings her memories to life.
The motorbike culture in contemporary Vietnam has come to symbolize the country's transition to capitalism since the mid-1980s. This project delves into various aspects, such as consumerism, mobility, gender, and class identity, to explore the emerging street style of Vietnamese motorcyclists who wear sun-protective clothing.
By deconstructing and reassembling sun-protective garments into "wearable sculptures," this project introduces an empowering strategy. The protagonist reinterprets their past encounters with discrimination, offering a new perspective on their experiences by redefining the concept of mobility and the female experience. They blur the boundaries of the body with commodities such as motorbike and fashion, reclaiming public spaces and embracing methods of "feminist collectivity."
The video is developed in the context of a multidisciplinary work including a speculative fashion collection, a video installation and a series of textile sculptures.
