Now: LUCA TICHELMAN—MY ALL • A LOW BUDGET SPECTACLE
MY ALL • A LOW BUDGET SPECTACLE is a self-portrait by artist Luca Tichelman. In this existentialist video installation that borders on puppetry, we meet the character Luca, a holographic miniature of the artist herself. In a humorous monologue, she guides the viewer through the exhibition space, which has been transformed into an archive.
A miniature love letter, a large blob-like friend named Freddy, and a stuffed dead yellow bird: each of the archival pieces represents a personal memory or anecdote. As a selection of fragments, each of the sculptures reveals something about who Luca Tichelman is. Or believes to be. Or wants to become.
With this work, Luca explores identity as a performative act and aims to invite the viewer to reflect on the constructed nature of memory and reality.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Luca Tichelman (1995) is an artist working across video, theatre, and sculpture. In her work she comically explores what it means to construct and identify as a “self”. She graduated from Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts, pursued Film at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, and later earned a Master’s in Lens-Based Media at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. This blend of theatre and film forms the backbone of her work, creating pieces that playfully examine the different ways of articulating who we are and the many versions we present of ourselves.
