SCREENING: LUXURY
In November and December Das Leben am Haverkamp transforms the facade of their studio into an open air cinema. Every year they welcome a new generation of image makers in the field of animation, fine art, fashion and costume design and beyond to be part of this screening.
This edition, Screening: Luxury, critically explores the phenomenon of luxury. What is the meaning of it in a hyper-capitalist society in which ‘client is king’? Can we use luxury and fashion as a lens to unravel power structures, or as an indicator of inequality? A new generation of makers explores and subverts the glossy surface, in order to reconsider the current state of affairs and reimagine our future.
Join us for a Q&A with the film makers during Hoogtij on 29 November. All four films will be on show during this evening. Free entrance, wheelchair accessible. More info

Until the Buildings Collapse (2023, 4 min)
Delving into the dynamics of the heteronormative nuclear family, Until the Buildings Collapse reveals how the house —as a luxury commodity— has become a tool for reinforcing societal norms and power structures. By juxtaposing intimate family moments, the film critiques how the house as a luxury exacerbates inequalities and perpetuates patriarchal capitalism, questioning the cost of this luxury on individual lives and relationships.

DYLAN ENO SPRIK (NL)
To Die For (2022, 5 min)
Dylan Eno Sprik explores the deadly allure of Victorian fashion. His film To Die For tells the story of arsenic green—a toxic pigment renowned as one of the most beautiful green hues ever created, despite its lethal risks. By drawing parallels to today’s health hazards associated with plastics and microplastics, the film uses 3D-scanned garments and historical narratives to expose the cyclical nature of human behavior in the pursuit of aesthetics.
