Upcoming: WORKSHOP — GOLDSMITHING, LOST WAX
Create your own piece of jewellery in genuine silver or gold! Over the course of two classes, you’ll make your own ring, pendant or talisman using the lost-wax casting technique. Working with wax allows you to experiment with organic shapes and textures through carving, cutting and filing, without any prior technical knowledge of working with precious metals.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION
On Saturday 7 November, 13:30—17:00 h you will learn the basics of making a wax jewel and casting precious metal. In a small group of up to 8 people, Anouk van Klaveren will guide you in making your own ring or pendant design executed in wax. You will learn how to create different textures and shapes using various hand tools. How to calculate the final weight of your jewel? How to get the right ring size? At the end of the day you will have your wax model ready for casting.
On Saturday 28 November, 15:00—17:00 h you will learn how to finish your jewel. We start the workshop with the rough casted shape. You will learn how to create different finishings, such as removing the sprue, creating glossy, matt or oxidized surfaces. If needed we adjust the size of your ring or solder an eyelet to finish your pendant. At the end of the day your design is ready to take home and be worn.
Participation: €225, including materials up to 8 grams of sterling silver. To cast your design in 14kt gold, an additional fee of €175 per gram is charged. Everyone is welcome — The workshop is suitable for beginners. Ages 14 and up. Guidance will be possible in both English and Dutch.
